About Waterloo Handyman

A direct booking line for one vetted, insured handyman working across Waterloo, St. Jacobs, Elmira and into Kitchener.

Waterloo Handyman is a booking line. It is not a handyman company, and it is not a directory that sells your enquiry to a list of bidders. It connects to one local handyman working across the city — the older homes around uptown and Mary-Allen, the student blocks between the two universities, the 1970s and 80s streets of Lakeshore, Beechwood and Lincoln Village, the family neighbourhoods of Laurelwood and Columbia Forest, the new builds in Vista Hills and Clair Hills — plus St. Jacobs, Elmira and Kitchener.

Handyman is a job title anyone can claim, and the two ways it goes wrong are opposite. One kind will not show up for anything under a full day. The other kind will do anything you ask, including the outlet, the gas dryer and the drain inside the wall, none of which they are allowed to touch for pay in Ontario and none of which is covered if it goes wrong. Most people who hire a handyman have been burned by one or the other.

The point of this site is a straight line to a handyman who takes the two-hour job, groups your list into the fewest visits, itemises the materials, and draws the licensed-trade line in the open: hangs the plug-in fixture but does not connect a wire, swaps the faucet but does not re-pipe, assembles the barbecue but does not go near the gas. The quote names the items that go to an electrician, a plumber or a gas fitter, and they stay off the invoice.

What we will not do: publish reviews we do not have, invent a rating or a star count, show a gallery of work that is not ours, quote a fixed price on a website, claim a licence for a job Ontario does not licence, or sell your phone number. This site is new. It says what it can do and nothing more.

What the handyman handles

  • Small repairs and drywall patching: holes, nail pops, corner cracks, water-stain patches, re-anchoring pulled-out hardware, plaster hairline cracks in older homes
  • Rental-property maintenance: turnover punch lists, licensing-inspection deficiencies and mid-lease repair calls for student houses, condos and small landlords
  • Furniture assembly and TV mounting, including closet systems, shelving, mirrors, blinds and concrete or steel-stud condo walls
  • Door, lock and trim repairs, including lever handles, grab bars, stair rails and other aging-in-place installs
  • Exterior small repairs: deck boards, railings, fence posts and gates, threshold ramps, weatherstripping and seasonal prep

What it does not handle

Anything with wires behind it, which in Ontario must be done for hire by a licensed electrical contractor under the Electrical Safety Authority. Anything gas, which must be done by a technician registered with TSSA. Plumbing beyond a like-for-like fixture swap. Structural work, renovations, roofing, full deck and fence builds, and anything needing a building permit from the City of Waterloo. Defects still covered by a Tarion new-home warranty go to the builder first. The handyman carries liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and Consumer Protection Ontario sets out what a written agreement should say. You will be told when a job belongs to someone else rather than have it done badly and off the books.

How this works

When you call 226-458-8409 or send the form with your list, your details go straight to the handyman. They go through the list with you, ask for photos of anything unclear, then quote it in writing: grouped into the fewest visits, materials itemised, and every item that needs a licensed electrician, plumber or gas fitter marked as such and left off the price. The work is done under their own insurance and WSIB coverage. Your information is not sold, not shared with a list of competing companies, and there is no markup added to your bill for the introduction.

What we won't do

  • Publish reviews we didn't earn. When we have them, they'll be real ones with names.
  • Quote a firm price before someone has seen the job.
  • Send anyone into your property who we would not have in our own.
